Next Drive is the persistent, internal storage in Next-OS for a professional’s files, separate from the documents that live inside a single Workspace or conversation. You call it up from anywhere in the platform, without connecting external services and without leaving Next-OS. This article explains what it is, how to use it and when it helps.

What Next Drive is
Next Drive is a file storage space that is always available, and that you can call up from anywhere in the platform, in a general chat or inside a Workspace, through the same interaction. A secure document repository, separate from the documents that live inside a single matter.
It is not meant to be a folder you open and browse through: it is meant to be cited inside a conversation while you work, not navigated like a traditional file system.
What it is for, in short:
- Keeping documents that serve you across the board, rather than tied to a single matter.
- Calling up a file you have already uploaded in any chat, without having to upload it again.
- Having one single, stable source: the referenced file is never duplicated, so no diverging versions of the same document exist.
How to call up a document
Inside a conversation you have two commands:
@cites a document from the current conversation or Workspace.@nextDrive:searches for a file in Next Drive and attaches the reference to it.
Inside a Workspace, @ opens a selector with two tabs: Workspace, holding the documents for that matter, and Next Drive, holding your personal archive. Both commands are also reachable from the “+” menu in the composer, under “Commands”: there is nothing to memorise.
You can also start from the other end. The three-dot menu on a single file or on an open folder gives you “open in new chat”.
The file is not copied: it stays in Next Drive and the chat references it by ID. If the file is renamed or moved, the reference in the chat remains valid.
Sharing and security
Next Drive files can be shared with your organisation.
A document in Next Drive lives under the same security, retention and audit rules as Next-OS itself. Next Drive is already built into the platform: there is nothing to connect and nothing to authorise.

In short
Next Drive is the internal storage in Next-OS for the documents that serve you across the board and do not belong to a single matter. You upload them once and call them up from any chat or Workspace, through the same interaction.
What you cite is not a copy: it is the file, referenced. One single source, which holds even when you rename or move it.
Next Drive is already available in Next-OS: there is nothing to connect and nothing to authorise.
