Frequently Asked Questions

What is Aptus.AI?

Aptus.AI is the Italian company behind Next-OS, the Artificial Intelligence solution for legal and compliance work. Next-OS monitors more than 200 national and international authorities across 7+ countries every day, turns legal text into structured, consolidated and always up to date data, and lets you search, analyze and generate regulatory and legal documents reliably.

It is designed for anyone working with the law: lawyers and law firms, accountants, labor consultants and Public Administration, as well as enterprise organizations, from structured law firms to in-house legal teams and compliance functions in regulated sectors.

How does Aptus.AI work?

You can ask legal, juridical, and compliance questions directly in the chat and get answers based on official databases (Italian, European, and international) that are always up to date. You can also upload documents in various formats, including PDF scans, and receive automatic analyses of their content and potential risks. Thanks to agentic orchestration, Next-OS does not just answer: it completes complex workflows, adapting to what it discovers along the way.

How does the free trial work?

We offer a 7-day free trial with no upfront payment required, and you can cancel the trial at any time.

Who can use Aptus.AI?

Aptus.AI is ideal for anyone working with law and compliance:

  • Lawyers and law firms
  • Accountants and labor consultants
  • Public Administration
  • Corporate jurists and in-house legal departments
  • Compliance managers and functions in regulated sectors
  • Regulatory and compliance professionals

It is not intended for private individuals or users who are not experts in the legal or compliance fields.

Is Aptus.AI based on proprietary technology and/or on open source technologies?

Aptus.AI is based on proprietary AI models with patents issued in Italy (2023), Europe (2024) and in the US (2025). Patents include the entire methodology used to turn documents into our proprietary machine-readable format, which is the key element in enabling AI to read regulatory documents.

Where is the service located?

Our server is cloud-based and located in Ireland (Europe).

Does Aptus.AI provide for an interpretation of the external regulation? Do you provide legal advice?

Aptus.AI provides access to legislative and regulatory authorities, as well as case law, as the generative AI processes the underlying context. In this case the context includes regulatory and jurisprudential documents, with the ability for users to also upload their own documentation. The chat is therefore able to process this content according to the prompt received. We do not provide legal advice.

Is the database multilingual?

Our proprietary technology is language independent and makes it possible to produce output independently from the input language (es. it can be used to converse with a document in English by asking questions in Italian and receiving the answer in French). Currently Next-OS contains documents in the original language available as published by the supported legislative and regulatory authorities

Which regulatory areas do you support?

Our proprietary machine-readable regulatory format can be applied to any kind of regulatory document and area. Aptus.AI accesses all official legislative and regulatory authorities’ sources and uses them to provide answers to questions without limitations related to the regulatory scope.

How frequent is the alert? What’s the delay between publication and alert delivery?

Our Alert is a near-real time service. We send daily alerts, the next available working day after the official publication date.

Is it possible to compare different versions of the same legal document on the platform?

Yes, Next-OS allows users to immediately see the changes made to a document highlighted with respect to the previous legal text. Besides, the different document versions can include consolidated ones automatically generated by Next-OS, incorporating all the changes made to regulatory documents, thus allowing users to always access the most up-to-date version of the document. Therefore, also thanks to the consolidated versions, the problem of tracking and managing changes to regulatory documents is solved, enabling users to avoid the time-consuming and error-prone process of manually comparing different versions of a document.

How do you make sure Aptus.AI is reliable?

The quality of the responses generated is mainly related to two factors. The first is Aptus.AI’s proprietary machine-readable format: by transforming the document into an AI-readable format we are able to provide LLM systems, in addition to textual content, also non-textual elements that improve the context available to generate a response. Two other factors contributing to the reliability of AI-generated responses are our automated regulatory analysis via AI (which also takes into account the official hierarchy of standards) and the RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) methodology.

Are the data shared with Aptus.AI stored for its learning?

No, Aptus.AI does not perform continuous learning about user interactions, as the algorithms are trained by an in-house team of experts. Therefore, your data will not be used for these purposes.

Does the contract comply with the requirements of the DORA Regulation? Do you provide an addendum?

Aptus.AI supports customers subject to the DORA Regulation by aligning its contractual arrangements with the requirements set out for third party ICT service providers. Where necessary, aspects such as audit rights, incident notification and operational resilience management can be addressed through an addendum or negotiated amendments, in accordance with the applicable regulatory framework and contractual terms.

How do you classify yourselves under the AI Act?

The Aptus.AI platform does not constitute a general purpose artificial intelligence system and does not fall within the category of high risk AI systems set out in EU Regulation 2024/1689 (AI Act). This assessment is based on the analysis carried out regarding the purpose and characteristics of the software, in accordance with the applicable European regulatory framework.
